Chapter Sixteen

When Bonnie leaves, she does it with an enthusiastic hug and a promise to come have dinner with me as soon as she has a free night. I don’t want her to leave, though I have no idea how she became such a dear friend in only a few hours. She’s the kindest, sweetest, most unassuming person I’ve ever met, and that is the farthest thing I suspected from one of the biggest names in Hollywood.

Derek must be really great to be dating someone like her.

Bonnie also promised to tell Derek about my writing so he can ask around and see what studios are looking for. It’s not a promise to get a script into someone’s hands, but it’s a way to give me a direction to go as I figure out what to write.

“Be patient with Liam,” she tells me as she grabs the handle of the front door. There’s a twinkle in her eyes that has been there all day, even though she hasn’t brought up Liam like I expected her to. Though she’s said his name a few times, it was mostly in relation to the others in their little friend group. Now, however, she seems to be insinuating something with her smile. “He is a really good guy, but when it comes to relationships, he’s always been a bit lost. He never saw what a good relationship should look like.”

“He told me something about his mom’s many boyfriends,” I reply. “But not much.”

Bonnie nods. “I think his mom did her best. I know some of what that’s like. Sometimes you have to experience something to learn it, but I think Liam is ready to take on the challenge.” She winks. “If you are.”

Am I ready? Liam has been a friend, and the last couple of days have been stressful and weird. But after a day of pampering with Bonnie, I’m feeling calm and relaxed and up for anything. Especially where Liam is concerned. I’ve weirdly missed him over the last few hours, like I’ve misplaced something important and can’t remember where I put it.

“We’ll see,” I say, though I can’t stop my smile from spreading across my lips.

Bonnie grins and glances behind me. “I think you two might be good for each other.”

“Does this mean I’m allowed into the rest of my house again?” Liam’s smooth voice fills the room with warmth. Even my cheeks blush hot, and I refuse to turn around and show him how much he affects me now that I don’t want to avoid him anymore. I’m not ready for him to have that power, even if I don’t know what he would do with it.

He would probably kiss me. Finally. And I would let him.

“I was bored out of my mind,” he continues as he reaches me.

Bonnie snickers and shakes her head. “I saw that video you posted, Liam. You were perfectly fine. I like the new song, by the way.”
